Born in Annecy in 1905, Anchierri started decorating pottery as a schoolboy in the studio of Paul Jacquet, where he also learned to turn pots and where he met people like Albert Besnard, painter and father of Jean. He opened his first workshop in 1926, making a wide range of items, mainly for Parisian retailers, but also for export to the USA.. The Wall Street crash in 1931 resulted in a new company – FORAH (F abrique O rléanaise R ené A nchierri). FORAH produced utility ware as well as one-off decorative items. At the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, the company employed 35 staff, including Roland Brice, who later worked with Fernand Léger in Vallauris. Anchierri closed the factory, re-opening in 1946 having spent 5 years as a POW. 1957 marked the opening of a new shop by Lake Annecy, using the brand name Nissy and later another outlet in Annecy-le-Vieux.
